Meet Gloria Sarfo: The Generalist

Gloria Sarfo

Acting in TV series is not the same as acting on stage with a live audience; acting on stage with a live audience is not the same as acting in a Kumawood movie; acting in a Kumawood movie is also not the same as acting in a Ghallywood movie.

When you look at it this way, not many actors and actresses tick all the boxes and do so very well wherever they are placed.

Then we have Gloria Sarfo, superb in all of these areas.

Gloria, to me, did not get the recognition she deserved. At a point, she was active in TV series, active in Kumawood movies, and active in Ghallywood movies, hosting live TV programs, and she was doing well in all of them.

Interestingly, she is not just a screen goddess, Gloria has a super voice, with many radio adverts and voice overs to her credit. She can practically do everything.

And one thing about Gloria is, off the screen, she is one of the most beautiful souls you’d come across, ever-smiling, ever-friendly, and never discriminatory.

She may not have had the glittering career some have had yet; she was hardly the main for the most part, but if there is one who proved to merit an elevation, who proved that she was ready and prepared to take that step, she was the one.

She has done this by remaining classy, not using the shortcut or pretending to be what she is not.

She has been weight shamed, she has been marriage shamed, in all of these, she remained classy.

As someone who is naturally drawn to people who get less credit than they deserve, Gloria is one of the people I yearn to see at the top and her flowers duly delivered.

If it is not delivered in typical Ghanaian fashion, it won’t change the fact that she was a top level actress, one who could function anywhere she is placed and got less recognition than she deserved.
